| The beautiful, hilly region of Friuli Venezia Giulia sits in the north east corner of Italy, and stretches from the Adriatic coast to Italy’s borders with Slovenia and Austria. Its very location means that there is both a Teutonic and Slavic influence on its history and culture and this, along with its secluded beaches perfect for relaxation in the height of summer and snow covered mountains for winter skiing, makes it a fascinating part of Italy to visit.

| The food in this part of Italy reflects the region’s colourful history, with a real mix of Austrian, German, Slavic and more ‘tradtional’ Italian dishes on offer. Whilst the famed local food is the prosciutto ham produced in the town of San Daniele, other popular foods include polenta, gnocchi, hearty ‘gulasch’, sausages and warming soups and stews as well as some great seafood towards the coast.

Friuli’s location where Adriatic and Alpine air meet provides the ideal climate for the production of some superb white wines, as well as some surprisingly characterful reds. Its vineyards are renowned for producing the best Pinot Grigio in Italy - many would say in the world – as well as other first class whites such as Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer. This is where our delicious Da Luca Pinot Grigio originates, in a small winery close to the famous town of San Daniele.
